An interview with General Manager Mr. Chen
Winstar cutting technology is situated in Tainan, Taiwan, and it is a professional solid carbide tool manufacturer who produces carbide endmills, drills and inserts. At TIMTOS this year, the company attempts to present itself as a comprehensive-cutting tool supplier. The General Manager Mr. Chen had an interview with us to share the latest development and breakthroughs that Winstar would like to exhibit at the show. The two major operational plans for the company are to one – increase the in-house production rate, and secondly, expand the application fields of their cutting tools for meeting the challenges of industrial upgrading.
Winstar markets its cutting tools under three brands - Winstar, CARBIDEX, Drix. The logic behind such division is to categorize the products based on its applications, and set up independent goals in R&D. Mr. Chen believes that different teams would have greater autonomy and more penetrative knowledges to the specific cutting tools they are working on. From then on, they would be able to achieve broad solutions when the company combines the diverse product lines. Solid carbide endmills and drills are marketed through the brand Winstar, while CARBIDEX x puts effort in index tools. The other division Drix focuses in the R&D of holemaking tools in an upgraded manufacturing era.
General Manager Mr. Chen forecasts that the company will stress more in developing the export to American and European markets if the uncertainties of the cross-Strait relations remain through 2017. Toward the end of the interview, we touched on the topic of future technological development in the tool-cutting field, Mr. Chen expressed his concern – he believes that the future of cutting tools would move to establish solutions for difficult-to-cut materials such as super alloy. The company will thus utilize the strong knowledges it has in different kinds of cutting tools, and provide the customers with high efficiency and low energy-consume solutions.
